Washington State Patrol: 2 Killed In Crash With Bus

Posted: Updated:

KIRKLAND, Wash. (AP) - The Washington State Patrol says two passengers in an SUV were killed in a collision on I-405 in Kirkland with a Sound Transit bus that continued for two miles. The bus driver reportedly said the brakes failed.

The patrol says 76-year-old Robert Rotta of Bellevue died at the scene Monday night and his wife, 75-year-old Elizabeth Rotta, died at a Seattle hospital. They were passengers in a car driven by their 51-year-old son, Kendall Rotta, who was taken to Harborview Medical Center.

The patrol says the bus collided with the car at an intersection on a transit ramp.

The bus carried 35 passengers. Several called 911 to report the collision and to say the bus wasn't stopping.
