As Family Works to Raise Money for Funeral, New Details Emerge
YAKIMA,Wash.-- New information in the death of a Selah toddler. Newly released coroner reports paint a much different picture of what happened to Sadie Rivera.
Last week, David Holbrook, 22, was arrested after he told police he was watching his girlfriend's child when he threw Sadie up in the air, hitting her head on the ceiling.
Tuesday, Yakima County Coroner Jack Hawkins says that story does not line up with the official cause of death.
Hawkins say the baby died of "crushing trauma to the chest," and did not have any severe head or neck injuries.
Some family members say they're still in shock and are just trying to process the loss of the child.
"She just loved everybody. She'd get tired and she'd crawl up on your lap and then lay her head down and go to sleep," said Mary Leach, the toddler's great aunt.
The family is trying to raise money for Sadie's funeral.
They held a yard sale Tuesday and they'll also be having the yard sale Wednesday, from 8am-6pm at 2810 4th Street in Union Gap.
You can also donate to Brookside Funeral Home under Sadie's name if you'd like to help that way.
