KENNEWICK, Wash. - Benton county commissioners have signed off on the funding for a new K-9 for the sheriff's office.
The department requested a second dog to keep up with the demand for K-9 assistance without over working their current dog, Jago. The money to pay for a new K-9 was already in the budget and now, the sheriff's office can begin their search for a new dog.
"It was easy to say yes to it because they are a valuable tool and they've had success. They money was there for that in the budget so we approved it," said Benton County Commissioner, Jerome Delvin.
The county plans to sign a contract with a state K-9 supplier that gets the dogs from Germany, where they are specially bred for law enforcement work.
