UPDATE (10:00 a.m.):  A Texas paramedic who helped evacuate people on the night of the deadly fertilizer plant explosion in West has been arrested and charged with possessing a destructive device.

It's not clear whether the charges are related to the fire or the explosion at the West Fertilizer Co. last month that killed 14 people.

McLennan County Jail booking clerk Brandy Gann says paramedic Bryce Reed arrived at the jail at about 2:40 a.m. Friday and was released to federal agents before 8 a.m.

WACO, Texas., - Texas law enforcement officials are launching a criminal investigation into April's fertilizer plant explosion.

The Texas Department of Public Safety says the agency has instructed the Texas Rangers and the McLennan County Sheriff's Department to launch a criminal probe.

Investigators have largely treated the West Fertilizer Co. blast that killed 14 people as an industrial accident.

DPS Director Steven McCraw says he wants to ensure "no stone goes unturned" in the investigation.

The plant exploded on the night of April 17th after a fire erupted at the facility in the rural town of West.
