YAKIMA, Wash.--Around 1,500 families braved the heat for Family Field Day Saturday.
They could try their hand at basketball, tennis, kayaking, even obstacle courses. All sports were free at Sarg Hubbard Park.
Coordinators said this event is all about getting kids active and outside.
"It's getting people out of the house, it's getting our kids out of the house and away from the TV sets, away from the video games," said Al Brown, the Executive Director of the Yakima Greenway Foundation.
"So you can grow and be strong and healthy," said a little participant.
Multiple organizations and businesses in the Yakima community helped put on the event. The kids said they're grateful for the chance to be outside having fun with their families.
