Tri-Cities Community Honors Outstanding Citizen

Posted: Updated:

KENNEWICK, Wash. - Each year the Tri-Cities community honors an outstanding citizen for the contributions they make to the area.

This year the honor goes to Allen Brecke. Brecke told NBC Right Now he is very honored to be named the Tri-Citian of 2013 and he is inspired now to live up to that title.

The generous community leader has served on many charity boards and supported organizations like the Red Cross, Domestic Violence Services of Benton- Franklin Counties, and United Way.

He has also helped develop the Hanford Reach Interpretive Center and the new KGH building at Southridge.

Brecke says his award is about service, not recognition.

"Gladly make use of the honor to further good and do good for others. It's not something that you put up on the shelf and think it's great for the ego. It's all about helping others," he said.

Brecke's work reaches beyond the Tri-Cities to Olympia where he serves on the State Community Economic Revitalization Board.

Brecke says he wants to help people in our community but also encourages people to help others wherever help is needed.
