Home cooking for Tri-Cities baseball teams in state tournaments

Posted: Updated:

TRI-CITIES, Wash. -- The Mid-Columbia Conference will send three baseball teams to the state tournaments. The Kennewick Lions and Southridge Suns are in the 3A tourney. The Richland Bombers are in the 4A tourney. All three schools will play this Saturday in the Tri-Cities. Richland will host 4A, while Kennewick and Southridge will face their opponents at Pasco High School. The 3A site switch from Spokane to Tri-Cities is because no GSL 3A schools made the tournament.

"Well that was the conversation. Everybody was like, 'well is it going to go back up there? There's no way.' It's like, 'let's hold this thing here. The power in the eastern side, it's here. The good quality of play. Everybody does a great job," Southridge head coach Tim Sanders said.

"For the state championships to be in Pasco as well, it's pretty cool that it's a Tri-Cities feel to it. With Kamiakin winning it last year in Pasco. I know talking with (Ryan) Cater and his players, that was really fun for them to be able to play in front of all the fans that maybe couldn't have made it across that state," Kennewick head coach A.J. Marquardt added.
