Project Designed to Create Affordable Housing in Kittitas County

Posted: Updated:

ELLENSBURG, Wash.-- A non-profit organization is partnering with the City of Ellensburg to create affordable housing.

The city provided Kittitas Community Land Trust with almost three acres of property to develop on Water Street.

A spokesperson for the non-profit said once more funding is secured, they'll build 13 homes for families who make 80 percent less than the median income. The non-profit said the average home price in Kittitas County is climbing back up to $200,000.

"The reality is that you've got a lot of people who are doing all the right things who still can't afford even with great interest rates to put their chunk down," said Sarah Bedsaul, the Director of Community Land Trust.

The non-profit said as soon as the money is in place, they'll start building. The project will create job opportunities for construction companies and other local businesses.
