Actors Needed for School Shooting Exercise

Posted: Updated:

ZILLAH, Wash.- The Zillah School District is looking for actors for an upcoming emergency drill to prepare educators and first responders for an active shooter event.

The exercise takes place 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 11, and will involve educators, law enforcement, firefighters, paramedics, and hospital workers responding to a person with guns who has entered a school building during school hours.  To make the exercise realistic for the first responders, 100 volunteer actors will portray injured students, teachers, family members and reporters.

The school district says actors must be middle school age or older, and will need to be prepared to stay throughout the exercise. Student's time can be considered Community Service hours for PEARLS.

Food and beverages will be provided.

To sign up as a volunteer, call the Yakima Valley Office of Emergency Management at 574-1900 or e-mail helga.staffan@co.yakima.wa.us. Also for more information, call Kevin McKay at 829-5911 or e-mail kevin.mckay@zillahschools.org.
