EUGENE, Ore. The Gonzaga University baseball team continued its struggle with the University Oregon by suffering a 4-1 defeat to the 10th-ranked Ducks Wednesday at PK Park. The Zags are 0-6 against Oregon since the university began fielding a team in 2009.

Like Tuesday night, the Bulldogs (32-18-1) were the first team to get on the board.

Alex Bonczyk hit a triple in the second at bat of the game and scored on a Cory LeBrun fielder's choice.

Gonzaga lefty Marco Gonzales got the start for the Bulldogs. Throwing with a limited pitch count, Gonzales no hit the Ducks in his three innings. Fort Collins, Colo., native also notched three strikeouts that all occurred in the first inning.

Oregon (42-11) tied the game in the fourth inning off Zach Abbruzza (0-3) who relieved Gonzales. Scott Heineman hit an RBI single to right field but the UO offense was held to just the one run.

The Ducks took the lead in the seventh inning. Abbruzza issued a walk to intentionally load the bases with one out for hopes of turning a double play. Abbruzza's day then ended for Tyler Olson, making his second relief appearance of the season.  J.J. Altobelli laid a successful safety squeeze bringing home the first run and the runner who started on second scored on the throw to first for the out giving UO a 3-1 lead.

Oregon increased its lead with a single to left field for the 4-1 inning before GU picked up the third and final out.

Gonzaga was retired in order in both the eighth and ninth inning giving Oregon the two-game sweep.

GU totaled five hits in the game including Bonczyk's triple. Each of the other hits were singles and they came from Taylor Jones, Clayton Eslick, LeBrun and Gonzales.

The Bulldogs have one remaining game in the regular season before the club heads to Stockton, Calif., for the West Coast Conference Championships. Monday the Zags will battle at Cal for a 6 p.m. first pitch.
