Authorities Save Girl Dangling Off Bridge Between Hwy. 95 and I-90

Posted: Updated:
COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho - The Kootenai County Sheriff's Office and Coeur d' Alene Police responded to an incident during the early evening hours on Wednesday after a young girl dangled herself off a bridge onto oncoming traffic down below.

Both the Officer and Deputy that saved her life spoke to KHQ Local News about the incident. The girl fled from the Kootenai County Medical Center after she threatened medical staff with throwing herself of a bridge. A little while later, that's exactly how deputies and officers found her. She straddled the bridge from Highway 95 overlooking the eastbound lanes of I-90. At one point, her entire body hung over the guard rail.

Deputy Laiva spoke to the girl, until Coeur d' Alene Police Officer Brooks arrived on the scene, and then they began to work together to save her life.

Eventually, Officer Brooks was able to come behind the girl and pulled her back over the rail to safety. She was taken back into custody and then transported back to the Kootenai County Medical Center once again for treatment. She owes her life to both Deputy Laiva and Officer Brooks.

The girl's name will not be released for privacy reasons.

SPOKANE, Wash. - It took a jury only a little more than two hours on Wednesday to find Daniel Arteaga guilty for the murder of Kim Schmidt. The prosecution said Arteaga was very jealous that his relationship was ending with Schmidt and she was moving on. They say that's part of the reason why he decided to kill her at the beginning of 2012. The defense disagreed saying that Arteaga was not there when she died and they think she may have even died of suicideMore >>
