Ben Franklin Transit Unveils New All Electric Bus in Kennewick
KENNEWICK, Wash. - Ben Franklin Transit is taking a major step toward the future.
Representatives made public transit history in Kennewick Thursday, unveiling a new all electric bus.
They say it's the first one in the entire country.
BFT was able to buy the $525,000 bus with the help of a grant.
It's actually an older bus they had rebuilt to go all electric.
They say it's a process that is more expensive than building a new vehicle, but BFT's CEO claims it's more environmentally friendly.
Tim Fredrickson said, "We think this is actually the future of transit and the entire industry of transit, and the entire industry frankly is very excited about what's happening here in the Tri-Cities today."
The new electric bus can travel more than 100 miles between charges.
It should be assigned to a local route in about a week.
