KENNEWICK, Wash. -Tri-Tech's solar home is on the move.

The construction trade students have entered their small, one room house into an engineering and design competition this weekend at Washington State University in Pullman, where students from throughout the northwest hope to win $5,000 scholarships.

Bethany Hiemstra is part of the Tri-Tech team.

"I did everything they didn't want to, pretty much," Hiemstra says. "It was one of those things, 'Oh, we need insulation put in. Beth, here you go. You get the itchy job.'"

Tony Milewski, the students' teacher, better describes Hiemstra as "the rock that gets everything done on the research side."

A school spokeswoman says she believes Tri-Tech is the only tech-school represented at the competition. Lisa McKinney says the other contestants are mostly engineering students from larger high schools.

Tri-Tech staff with experience towing odd-sized cargo volunteered to drive the house to the competition in Pullman.
