90 Potential Candidates File for Local Office in Benton County

Posted: Updated:

BENTON COUNTY, Wash. -- Candidate filing week is over, and it was a busy one for the Benton County Auditor's Office.

90 potential candidates declared their intentions to run for one of the 57 local offices up for election in 2013. 11 of those offices received 3 or more filings and will require a primary in August.

The top two candidates in the primary will advance to the General Election this November.

If 1 or 2 candidates filed then those candidates will advance directly to the General Election ballot. However, the Superior Court Judge will be issued a Certificate of Election immediately because only one candidate (Sal Mendoza) filed this week.

The next step for candidates is determining what order they will be appearing on the Primary ballot or General Election ballot if no Primary is required.

Benton County will be holding an official lot drawing on Monday, May 20th at 9:00 AM in the Benton County Courthouse. The drawing is held to determine the order in which the candidates name will appear on the ballot.
