Taking Strides To Beat Cystic Fibrosis

RICHLAND, Wash.- You may not hear about it very often, but cystic fibrosis affects a lot of people in our communities. In Richland Sunday, hundreds gathered for a walk to help fight the disease.

The 5th annual event took off from the starting line at noon. More than 350 people took part in the fundraiser. It started in Howard Amon park and ran along the Columbia river. Organizers say this is the best overall turn out they've seen yet.

"The families that come out, they're the ones that make this possible," explained Amie Lerch from the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. "They have such an amazing support group that come out to support them at the walk, they support them with donations and sponsorships and it wouldn't be possible without all these amazing families.

An estimated $49,000 were raised and the donations are still pouring in from the teams that walked.
