City Holding Hearing for Cell Tower & Billboard Moratorium

Posted: Updated:

YAKIMA, Wash.-- Yakima's City Council will take community comments Tuesday night on a moratorium on new cell phone towers and billboards.

The council wants to decide on new rules for both kinds of structures, before it allows companies to build any more.

Tuesday's hearing is about the moratorium, the council will discuss the building changes later.

The change is part of an effort by the city to make Yakima more attractive.

"That was a major concern of the public, in our most recent citizen survey is that they have real issues with the aesthetic assault of both billboards and signage and other quote: 'visual clutter'," said Yakima City Manager Tony O'Rourke.

The public hearing will happen during Tuesday's city council meeting at city hall.

That meeting starts at six pm.
