Search for Human Remains Comes Up Empty Outside Naches

Posted: Updated:

NACHES, Wash.-- Search and rescue crews in Yakima County say they came up empty after a two day search for more human remains after a skull was found last week.

Crews searched the area of Little Rattlesnake Creek outside Naches.

They originally thought the remains could be those of a man reported missing in the area about a year ago, but say until further tests are done, they can't be sure who it is or where the skull came from.

"If animals get involved with people that pass away in the woods, they tend to scatter remains. And if you get somebody's skeletal remains scattered throughout in a forest, it can become very very difficult," said Sgt. George Town.

The Yakima County Coroner will send the skull to Seattle for forensic testing. Pathologists will try and determine if it's male or female and work on getting DNA or dental records to identify the person.
