UPDATE: MOORE, Okla. - The Oklahoma state medical examiner's office has lowered the death toll from Monday's tornado to 24 people, including nine children.
Spokeswoman for the medical examiner's office, Amy Elliott, says she thinks some victims may have been counted twice in the early chaos of the storm.
Authorities said initially that as many as 51 people were dead, including 20 children.
Elliott now says nine children are confirmed dead, including seven who were pulled from the wreckage of an elementary school in Moore, 10 miles south of Oklahoma City.
The medical examiner has also confirmed more than 200 people were injured.
The search and rescue efforts continue today through the shattered community that was nearly flattened in Monday's tornado.
