Power Of Moore Tornado Dwarfs Hiroshima Bomb

WASHINGTON (AP) - Wind, humidity and rainfall combined precisely to create the massive killer tornado in Moore, Okla. And when they did, the awesome amount of energy released over that city dwarfed the power of the atomic bomb that leveled Hiroshima.
    
Meteorologists contacted by The Associated Press used real time measurements to calculate the energy released during the storm's life span of almost an hour. Their estimates ranged from 8 times to more than 600 times the power of the Hiroshima bomb.
    
Scientists know the key ingredients that go into a devastating tornado. But they are struggling to figure out why they develop in some big storms and not others. They also are still trying to determine what effects, if any, global warming has on tornadoes.

    Police say a 22-year-old woman was killed when she was apparently hit by a vehicle in western Montana. Police Sgt. Jerry Odlin says officers called to Missoula's Westside neighborhood early Sunday morning found the woman dead. Her name has not been released. The Montana Highway Patrol is investigating, and Odlin tells The Missoulian a search warrant related to the case has been served. No other information was released.More >>

    A Pennsylvania judge is scheduled to hold a hearing Monday to determine whether rapper Meek Mill should get a new trial in his decade-old gun and drug convictions.    Mill's attorneys have asked for a new trial based on credibility issues with an officer who testified at his trial. At least three convictions of other defendants based on that officer's testimony have been thrown out this year.
