Attorneys for Richland Florist Asking for Lawsuit Dismissal

Posted: Updated:

RICHLAND, Wash. - Attorneys for a Richland florist facing multiple discrimination lawsuits are asking a judge to dismiss a lawsuit filed by the American Civil Liberties Union against their client.

A spokesman for the non-profit organization, the Alliance Defending Freedom, said Monday the ACLU has no reason to force the owner of Arlene's Flowers to act against her beliefs.

Earlier this year the ACLU filed a lawsuit on behalf of Curt Freed and Robert Ingersoll when owner Barronelle Stutzman denied service for their wedding flower arrangements.

The spokesman says Stutzman serves gay customers but should not be forced to go against her beliefs on marriage.

Last week the Alliance Defending Freedom requested the Washington State Attorney General drop its lawsuit against Arlene's Flowers for not providing services for Freed and Ingersoll's wedding.
