Protestors in Yakima Urge Congress to Vote Against Amnesty Bill

Posted: Updated:
YAKIMA, Wash.-- A handful of people in our area joined a national movement Tuesday.

The Grassroots Of Yakima Valley held a protest in downtown Yakima urging Congress to vote against the Amnesty Bill. If the bill passes, millions of illegal immigrants living in the U.S. would gain citizenship.

Protesters said Congress should remember the lessons of the failed amnesty legislation in 1986 stating it did nothing to tighten border control.

"Congress passed the bill, and the border did not get any better," said Bob West the leader of Grassroots of Yakima Valley. "We're still essentially 11, 12 years after 9/11. We still have porous borders."

Protesters said controlling the border should be the government's first priority because they believe it's a matter of national security.
