YAKIMA, Wash.-- A big honor for a nurse in Yakima. Jennifer Miner is Washington state's assisted living nurse of the year.

Miner is the residence care director at Chesterley Meadows in Yakima.

She's worked at the facility for five  years and specializes in working with dementia patients.

She says it's a big honor to get the award and says she was shocked when she heard the news.

"I mean awards are nice, but it wasn't my goal. It was just really nice of my executive director to nominate me. I just love what I do," Miner said.

Miner says she used to work as a nurse in a hospital emergency room before she realized her passion for working with the elderly.

The Washington Health Care Association presented the award.
