Ex-Minor Leaguer Says Baseball Cheating Lives

Posted: Updated:

(AP) - A former minor leaguer says cheating is alive and well in professional baseball.
In an interview with The Associated Press, Garrett Broshuis says he fooled around with a spitball a few years ago, but couldn't bring himself to use the illegal pitch in a game.

Broshuis, who recently graduated from law school, is concerned about what he calls a "culture of deception" in baseball. In his experience, the most common example of rule bending by pitchers involved pine tar. But he also recalls playing with a pitcher who had sandpaper on his glove.

Stretching the rules to get an edge is nothing new in this sport. But Broshuis' account adds to the ongoing debate over how big of a problem it is.
