Walla Walla Police Department Adds Go-Kart to Fleet

Posted: Updated:

WALLA WALLA, Wash. - The latest addition to Walla Walla's police fleet is a bit smaller than the newer models, but all the bells and whistles are the same.

The go-kart was donated to the police department's DARE program back in 1990. Recently, it was pulled out of storage and turned into a restoration project for inmates at the state penitentiary.

"They had a good time doing it, they made a lot of modifications to its original design and it was their idea, so they were real proud of the work and they should be. They did a good job," said Bill Dunham, a Support Service Tech. with the Walla Walla Police Department.

"We found it and Bill and Danny got together and worked with the penitentiary to get it restored for us. So now we're going to have it at community events starting next Saturday," said Tim Bennett with the Walla Walla Police Department.

Officer Bennett was the DARE officer back when they first got the go kart. He says it is nice to see it back on the road and that it is much faster now.
