Military Families & Veterans Release Balloons at Memorial

Posted: Updated:

KENNEWICK, Wash. - There were many beautiful tributes to fallen heroes Monday, including a balloon release in Kennewick.

Military families and veterans sent tons of balloons flying high into the sky at Hillcrest Memorial Center in Kennewick.

NBC Right Now spoke with one veteran who explained what Memorial Day means to him.

"We're very proud of our heritage and we got there with the lives of many of our men who have given up supreme sacrifice and are no longer with us," said Korean War Veteran, Vincent Cortese.

Entire families came to the event to release balloons, each representing a family member and a fallen soldier.
