HERMISTON, Ore. - A man from Yakima is now in jail after police say they caught him trying to burglarize a car.

Hermiston Police responded to the Foxwood Apartments on Orchard Avenue Monday night when people at the Last Chance Tavern reported a man going door to door checking car locks.

Officers say when they arrived, they found 29-year-old Derick Martinez inside a car that didn't belong to him, in the process of removing the car's  stereo.

Police say Martinez also had an Xbox 360 and jewelry on him, which officers later returned to the rightful owner. Police say the owner's home on Juanita Ave had been burglarized.

Officers arrested Martinez and booked him into the Umatilla County Jail on charges of first degree burglary, first degree theft, first degree criminal mischief and unlawful entry into a motor vehicle.
