Sneak Peak into Kadlec's Emergency Room Expansion in Kennewick

Posted: Updated:

KENNEWICK, Wash. - Kadlec Regional Medical Center will officially open their new emergency room facility in Kennewick next week but NBC Right Now got a sneak peak.

The new Kadlec addition is only for emergency room visits and it is the first of its kind in eastern Washington. The building stands as just one of many developments in south Kennewick working to meet the demands of the growing city.

Kadlec regional medical center is expanding its reach by opening this new 24-hour Emergency Room Building. The facility brings the newest technology to the patient's bedside.

People come from across the region to Kadlec's Richland location but now the hospital is adding new services to be closer to their patients.

"We service a lot of northeastern Oregon and the Kennewick population so we wanted to bring our services closer to the community that we service," said Kadlec's ER Manager, Carla May.

Kennewick's population is growing.. And development is moving southward. The Kadlec ER is in a prime location where they anticipate an increased need for medical care.

"Region in general, that growth has contributed to it. Then you add the specialty services that Kadlec has added to its repertoire of care and so that combines to the increased demand to put these health care facilities in different parts of the region," said Kadlec spokesperson, Jim Hall.

There are only 65 ER beds in the Tri-Cities right now. This Kadlec ER will add another 18 and a 45 person staff. It is a medical necessity for the community trying to keep up with its rapid growth.

"That area is growing so fast. We know that jobs are going to be created in that area. We've met with the hospitals. We've met with many institutions about growth in that area and they're trying to get a step ahead of the growth now," said Kennewick Mayor, Steve Young.

On Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. there will be a ribbon cutting at this new facility and an open house for the public. They are also offering tours from noon to 8:00 p.m.
