Structure Fire Near Deer Lake Resort Destroys Two Homes

Posted: Updated:

DEER LAKE, Wash. - Just before midnight fire crews in Stevens County responded to a home engulfed in flames in the 3900 block of N. Deer Lake Rd near the Deer Lake Resort.

Due to the intensity of the flames, crews immediately had to take a defensive stance against the fire.

A nearby home just 15-20 feet away also caught on fire due to the heat radiating from the first home. Both homes were vacant at the time and no injuries were reported.

The first home is a total loss and the 2nd home, while still standing, is expected to be a total loss as well although some of the items in the basement and garage were salvageable.

Lieutenant Russ Armstrong from Stevens County Fire Department said, "If it were July or August this would have been a nightmare," as there are neighboring households built into the hillside surrounded by many trees and heavy brush.

Stevens County Fire Department 1 and 4 responded but this was not the first time the home has caught on fire. Previously, an electrical fire brought crews to the same house.

The home was an unfinished 4 story home that had been condemned by Stevens County due to structural issues. Due to passed electrical issues, the electricity should have been disconnected from the home and that is being investigated today.
