Pierce GOP Picks 3 as Possible Carrell Replacement
TACOMA, Wash. - The Pierce County Republican Party has recommended three possible replacements for Washington state Sen. Mike Carrell, who died this week from complications related to his treatment for a blood condition.
On Thursday night, party officials chose former Pierce County Councilman Dick Muri, freshman Rep. Steve O'Ban and University Place City Councilman Javier Figueroa.The party officials' say their top pick is Muri.
The names will be sent to the Pierce County Council, which has 60 days from the date of the vacancy to appoint one person from the list.
Carrell died Wednesday at a Seattle hospital.
Earlier this year, Carrell was diagnosed with myelodysplastic syndrome, also known as pre-leukemia. The chronic disease affects blood-forming stem cells.
