Open House at NWS Pendleton Office Saturday

Posted: Updated:

PENDLETON, Ore., -- The National Weather Service office in Pendleton will open their doors to the public on Saturday for an open house.

Guided tours and weather experiments are a few of the activities planned.

The Blue Mountain Rocketeers are launching model rockets and a weather balloon to gather live updates on conditions in the lower atmosphere.

The office will also honor local weather spotters during an awards ceremony.

"They will see how we issue forecasts and warnings, they will actually be able to look at a forecaster issuing a mock warning," says Warning Coordination Meteorologist Dennis Hull.  "Hopefully we won't be issuing any real warnings, it looks like the weather is going to be really nice!"

The open house starts at 10 a.m. Saturday morning at the Pendleton Forecast Office at 2001 Northwest 56th Drive.

The event is free to attend.
