New SAGE Center in Boardman Offers Hands On Agriculture Experience To Visitors

Posted: Updated:

BOARDMAN, OR- You may know a little bit about what goes into food production and the agriculture industry, but a new facility in Oregon will let you get a hands on look at the action.

At the new Sustainable Agriculture and Energy or SAGE Center in Boardman, Oregon you can touch, taste and fully immerse yourself in how food gets from the farm to your table.

"Now, your food just doesn't come from the grocery store, it actually starts in some farmer's field out here," said Gary Neal, the General Manager of the Port of Morrow.

From the fields and the processing centers at the Port of Morrow, that food travels the world.

"When you push this button, if I push fried potatoes you can look up at this map and you can see where fried potatoes start off at the Port of Morrow in Boardman and they are shipped all over the world," explained Kalie Davis, the Manager at the SAGE Center as she showed off one of the interactive exhibits. "We really do feed the world from here in Morrow County."

With interactive displays, a movie theatre and even a tractor driving simulation game you'll literally get a grip on what goes into making your food. Once you've gotten a tour of the ground level of the SAGE Center you can hop in a hot air balloon and get a bird's eye view as well. Soaring high above the clouds you can experience parts of the region you wont see by just driving down the interstate. By sharing these experiences visitors leave with a new respect for the industries that have built up the region.

"Good information to everyone no matter what age and hopefully they'll come away with a good experience as well," said Neal.

The new center in Boardman is right off I-84. The opening ceremony was Friday night and this weekend will be the first time you can take your family to enjoy the new facility.
