"Kiddin Around" Goes on a Bird Hunt

YAKIMA, Wash.--Kids and their families dusted off their binoculars to go out "birding" Sunday.

The Yakima Arboretum and the Greenway's "Kiddin Around" program partnered with the Audubon Society to put together a bird hunt.

Several stations were set up around the grounds to help kids identify various species. There was everything from a tiny chickadee to a great blue heron.

"Birding is just a really fun thing to do with your family," said Colleen Adams-Shuppe, the Co-Executive Director for the Yakima Arboretum. "It's like going on a treasure hunt to see if you can find the birds and so it's a wonderful way to do two things. Get them outside, get them active and learning about nature."

Coordinators said the bird hunt takes just a couple hours. At least 50 families were expected to take part Sunday.
