Pasco School District Securing Funds for new Delta High School

Posted: Updated:

PASCO, Wash. - Educators say a local high school that focuses on STEM education classes is a huge success and expanding it will bring more opportunities for students.

Land along Road 100 will eventually be the new home of Delta High School and some money from the state could get students here earlier than thought.

The Superintendent of Public Instruction has allotted $10M to help build a larger facility so more students can focus on STEM education courses. The funds would cover most of the construction costs but the school district still has to meet certain requirements, like proving they need the money and showing the plans for the school before they get a check.

A Pasco School District official tells NBC Right Now that the money is almost a sure thing.

I think we're going to get it, it's just a matter of when we're going to get it. Everybody says what a great idea it is, everybody in the legislature and OSPI, now the question is actually getting it. We will. It's just a matter of when," said Pasco School District's Assistant Superintendent, John Morgan.

One of the things that will help the school district secure the funding is showing that the city supports plans to build the school on Road 100 in Pasco.

The city council will make a decision on a special permit for the school during their meeting Monday night.
