Black Bear Shot in Benton City Orchard

Posted: Updated:

BENTON CITY, Wash. - Benton County sheriff deputies say Fish and Wildlife had to shoot a bear in an orchard Tuesday morning.

Deputies say the 1-year-old black bear had been threatening workers in the apple orchard near Goose Ridge Vineyards in Benton City, so game wardens had to kill it and take it away.

Wardens say there were also a few coyotes following the bear, leading them to believe it was injured or sickly. The coyotes left, unharmed, before deputies arrived.

No people were hurt throughout the whole ordeal.
