PENDLETON, Ore. (AP) - The Hermiston fire marshal says a large weekend blaze that torched 2,500 tons of baled wheat straw could last a few more days before finally burning out.
The fire started late Saturday in a field south of Hermiston owned by Pacific Ag Solutions.
Firefighters arrived to find three-quarters of the bales already engulfed in flames, visible to passing traffic on Highway 395.
There were no injuries and the straw - valued at $270,000 - was insured.
Fire Marshal Tom Bohn says the cause of the fire has not been determined.
