Missing Walla Walla Man with Dementia Found

Posted: Updated:

WALLA WALLA, Wash. - A 76-year-old Walla Walla man suffering from Alzheimer's, was found alive after missing for over 24 hours.

John Christiansen was found in an overgrown area beyond the end of East Alder Street, in the new Providence subdivision.

Walla Walla County Search & Rescue volunteers and law enforcement personnel from the Sheriff's Department and Walla Walla Police Department participated in the search.

About a dozen volunteers from the search and rescue team, using 4-wheelers and searchers on foot, combed through the area for several hours.

Christiansen was found around 8:30 Tuesday evening, very weak and dehydrated. He was transported by ambulance to a local hospital.

Christiansen had walked away from his home at about 9:00 a.m. Monday.

During a previous search for him a year ago, he was located by a Walla Walla police officer near the same area he was found this evening.

It is highly unlikely Mr. Christiansen would have survived a 2nd night outdoors.
