WALLA WALLA, Wash. -- The Walla Walla Sweets opened practice to the media Tuesday to introduce the team to the public. Wednesday the Sweets begin their 2013 season with a three game series against the Bend Elks. Walla Walla has a hand full of Mid-Columbia Conference players including Spencer O'Niel from Southridge who led last year's team in home runs and RBI, but nothing overshadows opening day.
"Yeah I've hear a lot of stories about opening night, just huge. So that's going to be a cool environment to play under. I've never played under a big group of people so seeing that will be really cool," infielder Jared Gonzalez said.
" it is, I mean our fans are unbelievable. The following we've had since day one, averaging 1,500 a night. You know it's kind of the talk of the town during the summer, there's not a whole lot to do, I guess in Walla Walla, this is kind of the spot where people come out and see baseball games," manager J.C. Biagi added.
