Walla Walla Storage Shed Destroyed in Fire

Posted: Updated:

WALLA WALLA, Wash. - Walla Walla Firefighters are trying to figure out what started a structure fire Tuesday afternoon.

Firefighters say they went to a storage building behind 522 Woodland Street, and found the 40' by 100' storage building full engulfed in flames.

Firefighters say because of low hanging power lines and partially burned power pole, crews had to wait for the power company to turn off electricity in the area.  27 firefighters were then able to put out the fire, but not before it destroyed the building.

Firefighters say it appears to have started near where power lines enter the building. They say two transformers on an adjacent power poll tripped, and caused two loud bombs.

Firefighters say the owner of the building, Joe Hamada, wasn't there, and building was unoccupied at the time of the fire.

They estimate the damages at around $10,000. No one got hurt.
