Community Members "Locked Up" for Fundraiser

Posted: Updated:

YAKIMA, Wash.-- A number of community and business leaders spent time behind bars today as part of a fundraiser for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

It's called the MDA Lock Up.

Yakima Firefighters "arrested" people at work or home and brought them to Gasperetti's Restaurant.

After a short stint behind bars, they made calls to friends and co-workers asking for "bail" money that will go toward muscular dystrophy programs and research.

"All the money that they raise gets to go to the Yakima community goes to the families, goes to their services," said Alexa Borden with the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

While the lock up itself was just for today participants will continue to raise money for the next three months.

The Tri-Cities will have their own lock up event in October.

To contribute to the Yakima lock up, you can head to the organization's website.

KENNEWICK: Residents in one Kennewick neighborhood are fed up by people speeding through their streets, so they've taken matters into their own hands. A lot of people use 7th Avenue and Huntington Place in Kennewick as a through street to access US 395. Many residents say when drivers are  going 60 MPH on their 25 MPH street, that they can't even let their children or animals play outside near the street.
