Finley Fundraiser for Teen Battling Cancer

Posted: Updated:

FINLEY, Wash. - The Finley community will once again be taking a swing at raising money to support a local teen battling leukemia.

Abi Hamlin is a river view high school student and former athlete who is currently in remission after beating leukemia twice. She is known to her friends and neighbors as a strong girl who has stayed positive during her long battle with cancer.

That's why the small community says its their duty to do all they can to support Abi and her family during this difficult time.

"We believe that when bad things happen to good people, the rest of us need to do what we can to help. And so, she's still in remission, but she's still going through her daily battles and we want to be able to help and defray some of the financial burdens they have," said River View High School Resource Officer Joe Lusignan.

This year is a little different, though.  The funds raised will be split between Abi's family and the Finley Booster Club to help maintain their athletic programs and help cover the costs for kids who want to get involved. People will be teeing off Friday, June 14th at the Horn Rapids Golf Course.

People who want to help out can donate raffle prizes, sign up to be a sponsor or sign up with a team to golf. The deadline to register is Friday, June 7th. For more information, e-mail Deputy Joe Lusignan at jlusignan@frontier.com.
