Yakima Police Raising Money for Special Olympics

Posted: Updated:

YAKIMA, Wash.-- The Yakima Police Department is raising money to help Special Olympic athletes in our area.

Lt. Mike Merryman is spending 32 hours on the roof of Top Foods in Union Gap.

He was hoisted up there Thursday morning and will spend the night, eventually coming down Friday evening.

It's the 10th year that Merryman has taken part in cop on Top and he says the event has raised about $30,000 since it began.

"It's just something that resonates a lot with law enforcement to step outside that traditional role of law enforcement and do something, some good for some folks that really could use a hand once in a while," Lt. Merryman said.

If you can't make it to Top Foods to donate, you can support them online by clicking here.
