Pendleton Power Capacity too Low for Large Data Center

Posted: Updated:

PENDLETON, Ore. - Economic development Consultants in Pendleton say the city doesn't have the power capacity for a large data center.

They say the city could however, host a smaller one, that could store files for businesses.

The consultants say the limits of Pendleton's electricity generation will still keep the city powered for about 25 years. But a major data center, like the one in Prineville or Google's operation in The Dalles, are out of reach.

The Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation and the city had planned to split the cost of a $60,000 study the possibility of a data center, but a meeting discouraged them.
