Federal Gov't Concerned of Cleanup Delays at Hanford
RICHLAND, Wash. - The federal government says Washington and Oregon are at serious risk of missing two cleanup deadlines at Hanford.
The Department of Energy says missing those deadlines could bring on potential new round of setbacks.
Washington Gov. Jay Inslee says he's disappointed with the latest delays at Hanford, and says the U.S. Department of Energy has yet to justify them or propose a new path forward.
A spokeswoman for the DOE says the department notified the states out of an abundance of caution, and continues to work with cleanup contractors to try to mitigate the factors that contributed to the delays.
