New Jail Walls Rising at Franklin County Courthouse

Posted: Updated:

PASCO, Wash. -People conducting business at the Franklin County Courthouse have to drive around bulldozers and cement mixers.

Workers have started to build the walls of the addition to the jail.

When they're finished, the sheriff will have space for 300 inmates. Right now, the jail can only hold around 200, and when it was built in the 1980s, the jail was only supposed to hold about 100 inmates.

The expansion also includes additional office space for law enforcement and prosecutors.

Taxpayers are paying for the $20,000,000 expansion with a raise in the sales tax of one tenth of one percent.
