Oregon Fails to Send 80% of High School Grads to College

Posted: Updated:

PORTLAND, Ore. - It looks like the state of Oregon isn't reaching its goal of sending 80% of high school graduates to college.

The National Student Clearinghouse says just 61% percent of the class of 2011 enrolled in a college or community college. That means a total of 14,000 graduates in Oregon didn't pursue college.

Nationally, 68% of high school graduates enroll in college.

The Clearinghouse says only one of Oregon's 180 school districts reached the 80% percent goal: the Riverdale School District in Portland, which sent 86% of its 2011 grads to college.
