KENNEWICK, Wash. - Traffic in both westbound lanes of I-82 is moving again after a rollover over accident closed the highway south of Kennewick Monday afternoon.
Washington State Patrol says an SUV driven 42-year-old Ma Cardenas of Paterson with a 12-year-old passenger and an one-year-old passenger was driving eastbound, veered into the median, then rolled into the westbound lanes clipping a truck.
"Don't panic. If you hit the rumble strip, take your foot off the gas, take your foot off the brake, ride it out a little bit. The second you jerk your wheel in an SUV, you're gonna roll. Especially if you hit the median which is also high grade," said Washington State Patrol Trooper Aaron Trombley.
The Cardenas and her 12-year-old passenger were sent to Kennewick General Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The one-year-old was taken to Kadlec Regional Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.
The driver of the truck was treated at the scene.
Troopers say the cause of the accident was inattention. Cardenas was charged with negligent driving.
