State Farm Insurance Recommends Preparing for Wildfire

Posted: Updated:

KENNEWICK, Wash. - In response to recent wildfires, insurance agents want to make sure you're prepared in case of an emergency.

Specialists at State Farm Insurance say it can only take a spark to consume thousands of acres and destroy hundreds of homes, so when a wildfire rages, there are three things you can do to protect your family and your home.

First, prepare your home beforehand to give emergency responders time to protect your property. Simple projects like trimming limbs and bushes away from your house, and clearing the roof and gutters of debris will make it harder for a fire to spread on your home.

Second, take time to create a home inventory checklist. Take photos of every room in your home and create a list of your belongings. This can help you remember and recall your personal property if a wildfire consumes your home.

Third, make note of the must-have items you need to grab if you only have a few minutes to evacuate. This will ensure that you won't forget important items like medications, personal contacts or clothing while you are out of your home during a mandatory evacuation.

Remember to always make safety the top priority during wildfire season and contact your local insurance agent for information about insurance coverage for a wildfire.
