RICHLAND, Wash. - Cheerleaders at American Cheer Extreme have been sweating it out during what they refer to as "Tire Week."
It's a week long boot camp that involves three hours of sprinting, push-ups and tire exercises. The camp is in preparation for their upcoming competitions, which begin in January.
Coaches say the intense workout is designed to not only make the girls stronger but also to bring them together as a team.
"They need the strength, endurance and teamwork to be able to have a good strong team on the floor. If you don't have teamwork when they're out on the floor, you don't get anything accomplished," said Cate Kinion, a coach for the team.
American Cheer Extreme is one of the youngest cheer squads in the Tri-Cities. It's made up of five teams with cheerleaders ranging from 5 to 18-years-old.
