Signs to Look for to Prevent Violence Against Children

Posted: Updated: -- Child Protective Services wants people to know about the signs to look for to keep a child safe from a potentially violent situation.

Some of the signs to watch for in a child's caregiver include a lack of concern for the baby or blaming the child for personal problems.

Signs to look for from the child may include a frightened reaction to a person or all adults.

Child services urges people to speak up if they see any of these signs.

"Talking directly to the parents. They may not realize that they're having this problem with their child. So they're going to need to get some help," said John Wiley, Washington State Department of Social and Health Services.

Parents who worry about their home environment can take their baby to a crisis nursery to keep the baby safe or call DSHS for more assistance.
