PASCO, Wash. -- Friday the Tri-City Dust Devils open their season, hosting the defending Northwest League champion Vancouver Canadians. Meanwhile Tri-City is coming off a last place finish in the 2012 East Division standings. Now it is the realigned North Division. The Dust Devils want to find a balance between winning and player development.
"My job description, it is development. But at the same time, winning is a part of that development. You can't have a bunch of losing teams in your minor league system and expect to be able to find a way to win up there. These levels are so important because we've got to teach these guys how to be a professional, how to properly prepare, what it takes to get into a quality routine, the mental grind that goes into the game. They learn all that stuff down here. But at the same time winning is a vital part of that," manager Drew Saylor said.
